About Me

I was born the 9th of December of 2001, I am currently 17 years old. Although I was born in Florida I have lived all my life in Quito. I love my country, Ecuador and feel extremely grateful to having grown up here. Both of my parents love nature, my mother is a biologist and my father studied forest engineering; because of this I have been lucky enough to have grown up sorrounded by nature. As a little girl I grew up in my farm in Cayambe in the middle of the Andes and spent my childhood travelling to Galapagos . My mother taught me the name of the species surrounding me which lead me to become more observant and to develop my interest in biodiversity. I am very close to my family and am grateful for all the support they have given me.

Since I was little I have always loved animals and had a special relationship with these. Traveling has always been a very important part of who I am because it combines having new experiences and discovering new cultures. I love to learn about everything and my curiosity has made me become interested in all types of subjects.
Having grown up in Ecuador, in a very diverse country I have been aware of the socioeconomic differences. This has always made me reflect on the injustice of my country and question the political systems which allow this to prevail which has meant I have developed an interest in politics.  I love to volunteer and have helped with street animals, I give English classes twice  week to less fortunate children and volunteer with helping Venezuelan refugees in Quito.

I have been following the Beyond Lagartococha project for some time before becoming a part of it. I decided to work with Beyond Lagartococha because I thought it was a life changing experience and that I could hopefully have a positive impact by helping. After returning from the trip to Painkenape and Lagartococha I began to value my education and further understood the value of our rainforests and of the indigenous communities. I learnt so much from the Secoyas; I enjoyed talking about their traditions and beliefs. Throughout the trip I was in awe all the time, I felt like I was surrounded by such wise, kind and loving people.

From the age 0f 12 I have been rock climbing, I really love to do this since you feel a lot of adrenaline. I enjoy climbing because it is very relaxing and it teaches you a lot of lessons such as being patient. confident and perseverant.
Being a part of the Beyond Lagartococha teammakes me very proud and happy. The enthusiasm and work everyone puts in is inspiring. I am grateful for being part of this and hope to continue helping once I am in university as well.
